Colleen Fitzgerald is a graduate of the University of Vermont, and has a Master's of Library Science degree from the University of Arizona. After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1992 she worked for the Tucson Arizona campus of IBM and was librarian for an educational publisher for 8 years in Phoenix. Colleen moved to Ireland in December 2003, where she has been active in the South Dublin community as an adult literacy tutor and has volunteered with the Chester Beatty Library for the past 4 years.
At the museum she was responsible for beginning the physical survey of the 14th and 15th Century manuscript collection under the supervision of the Head of Conservation. Colleen is currently an Assistant Librarian with the National Council for the Blind Ireland library, located in Dublin, where she has worked since May 2006. Among her library duties, Colleen is responsible for the retrospective cataloguing of the Braille and audio-book collection, as well as creating audio description for the About the House series on RTÉ. Colleen is also learning Braille through the RNIB in England. |
