After leaving school, Kate worked for a time with airline companies in Dublin and in San Francisco. Then, as a mature student, she studied English for a B.A. Mod. in Trinity College and, later, for an M.A in UCD.

In 2004-05 she gave a series of talks on READING FOR PLEASURE in Dublin City Public Libraries and was a contributor to their Readers’ Day programme in the City Offices both years.

More recently she has worked with Wexford County Libraries as well as with reading groups in Dundrum, Walkinstown, Rathfarnham and Booterstown, in Dublin. Her first experience of free browsing was in the Thurles branch of the Tipperary County Library.

Currently Kate is a tutor in the School of English and Drama and the School of Education and Lifelong Learning in UCD and before that she was an English and History teacher. She also works for FAS on their GATEWAY programme for women returning to work, and reviews paperbacks for the Irish Times.
