Mary O’Donnell was born in Monaghan and took a degree in German and Philosophy at NUI Maynooth. She is a poet, fiction-writer and broadcaster based in Co. Kildare.

A former Writer-in-Residence in Co. Laois and UCD Dublin, she has published five volumes of poetry and presented several series of poetry programmes for RTE radio, most recently ‘Crossing the Lines’, a series on European poetry in translation. A critically acclaimed third novel, The Elysium Testament, appeared in 1999.

Her New and Selected Poems (The Place of Miracles) appeared in May 2006 from New Island Books. She is an experienced creative writing teacher and mentor who has taught on the faculty of the University of Iowa’s summer writing programme at TCD Dublin, and last year on the faculty of Carlow University Pittsburgh’s MFA Program in Creative Writing. She is a member of Aosdana, the Irish academy for the arts.
