Michael Kelly is a freelance writer, author and broadcaster. He is a contributor to The Irish Times, writing features on lifestyle issues, food, self-sufficiency, travel and health. His bestselling first book, Trading Paces (O’Brien Press) was published in April 2008. His second book, Tales from the Home Farm was published in late 2009.
Michael is an informed and impassioned speaker on food issues, self-sufficiency, sustainability and growing your own food, and has featured on Nationwide, Ear to the Ground, Today with Pat Kenny, The Tubridy Show, The Afternoon Show, Mooney, Ireland AM and The Last Word.
He is executive director of GIY (Grow it Yourself) Ireland, a national food grower’s group which supports back-yard growing by getting amateur growers together in the community to exchange skills, knowledge and produce. In 2009 Michael was given an award by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland in recognition of his work with GIY Ireland.
He worked for ten years in the I.T. industry in Dublin but now lives the good life in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford with his wife and an ever-expanding coterie of farm animals. |
